People
do not see see mammals very often in the Pine Barrens for the reason
that most mammals remain as much as possible out of the sight of
man and several are nocturnal. The two mammals most likely to be
seen in the pines are the red squirrel and the white - tailed deer.
In addition, abundant evidences of beaver activity can be found
in scattered locations throughout the Pine Barrens.
