Legislation to protect the Pinelands was passed in 1978. The State's
Pinelands Protection Act, one of the most unique land laws in the
nation, followed in 1979. This law severely restricted the building
and developing of much of the Pinelands The preservation of the
Pine Barrens is an ongoing concern for many people. As we learn
more about the Pinelands we begin to understand and appreciate its
value. It is a priceless part of the world. The effort to protect
and preserve it has just begun.
