The Pitcher
Plant
|
Several
species of carnivorous plants are found in the Pine Barrens Bogs.
There are three groups of these plants: pitcher plants, sundews
and bladderworts. Because of the nutrient poor soil, they rely on
insects for a food supplement. Most of these use insects as their
usual prey and source of food, but worldwide some carnivorous plants
supplement their insectivorous diets with small scorpions, amphibians,
reptiles and even small rodents.
