The
unique plants and animals are closely related to the acidic soil
and occurrence of fire. Because of the high PH of the soil, only
a few types of agricultural crops can grow in the Pine Barrens.
Blueberry and cranberry are the most common. These crops have become
a great source of income for the residents of southern New Jersey.
